Z8 updates to include bird autofocus

February 7, 2024 • Gear Talk

Huge update for the Z8 released.  Probably the biggest addition is adding the bird autofocus mode that was already available in the Z9.  Also noteworthy are Auto Capture, Pixel Shift shooting, and even some new shutter sounds.  The update can be found here.

I’ve been using the bird autofocus mode consistently, and I think it does make a difference.  The autofocus just seems a little stickier.  I experimented with this mode for two weeks of eagle photography in Alaska, and this mode seems to pick up smaller bird sizes in the frame.  This was not a small update, it is loaded with lots of new features and upgrades.  If you are a Z8 user you will want to update for Firmware 2.0.
