I love shooting editorial assignments. Lots of freedom on what to shoot, how to shoot it, and exploring creative ideas. I have been doing assignments for Digital Photo Magazine for many years, and really value being able to contribute to this magazine along with Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo Pro magazines. Talking with the editor we went a different direction on this story. Rather than focus on a destination, we focused on specific subjects covered in a solid travel story. I then went into more details on how to photograph those subjects with specific techniques and creative ideas. Some subjects are familiar to many photographers…iconic places, people and landscapes. But how many photographers take a decent food photo while they are photographing a trip? And think just how important and interesting cuisine is during your travels…some trips are planned purely on how good the food is!
