Thunderbolt Pro Media Card Reader

December 15, 2021 • Gear Talk

Now that you have these super fast CF Express cards in your new camera, you need to continue that speedy workflow with other accessories that can tap into that speed.  I went out and bought a couple Prograde Digital CF Express Thunderbolt Card reader (Type B), and wow, has my workflow gotten fast.  I was a little hesitant after reading reviews that this $120 card reader wasn’t working for some buyers.  But I can tell you this reader is working fine for Cree and I on new iMac and M1 chip MacBook Air laptops…I’m not sure about compatibility with older computers.  Just how fast is this.  I can download a 512GB card in about 6 minutes…literally thousands of images.  This is so much faster than using a USB card reader it is crazy.  But remember, I am using CF Express cards and the latest thunderbolt connections on new computers…you may have slower speeds with other computers.  I was just in Africa a month ago photographing wildlife, and I was shooting thousands of images each day.  Back at the lodge I could download images before I could unpack my gear from the day!
