We just returned from a big shoot in Alaska, and we needed to bring a lot of gear with us. I normally use the Airport Advantage, my favorite roller for most of my trips. But when I need to take big glass and lots of gear, I turn to the ThinkTank Airport Security 3.0.
Everything I like about the Airport Advantage is found in the Security, except in a much bigger roller. The Security has more paddling and is more rigid than the Advantage, which is nice since I am carrying my 600mm F4 in it. I can easily get my 600mm, multiple other lenses, flashes and bodies in this roller. I’ll admit it gets a little heavy, and you sometimes feel like a weight lifter getting into the overhead compartment on a plane. But this roller fits on standard jets in the overhead, which is where I normally carry it. If I go on a small jet, I have no issues gate checking it. There are TSA approved locks, as well as a cable you can lock to a post when you need to secure it at a location.
ThinkTank products are a little expensive, but are worth every penny. They have a lifetime warranty, and built to last as long as you are shooting. We rely on them for carrying our gear around the globe on workshops and assignments. The ThinkTank Security runs around $400.
