If you follow this blog you have seen previous posts on the warmest socks I can find. After countless days in subzero temps living in Alaska (-40F), warm feet are always on my mind! But I absolutely love photographing in winter…low angle light and alpenglow last a long time at northern latitudes, the winter scenes are sublime.

In my quest to find the warmest sock available, I have a new contender. Check out JB Fields 40 Below and 50 Below socks. JB Fields is a Canadian company that has been making socks since 1877! They know what they are doing, and 40 and 50 Below socks are incredible. The sock wool is thick woven strands, 85 percent wool and 15 percent nylon. In addition to being very thick, they don’t constrict at the ankle and calf so your blood flow stays good (this is a big problem with many socks…constrict blood flow equals cold feet). I stand around photographing aurora all night and these socks keep my feet warm.
The bottom line…I think these are the warmest socks I have used. If extreme cold is part of my photo shoot, I will be wearing JB Fields 50 Below socks. The run about $20 a pair, a bargain for warm feet!
