The Plamp

May 12, 2020 • Gear Talk

Here is an inexpensive gear tip. If you photograph flowers, macro or still life, you should order a Plamp today.  This simple clamp/arm device is very helpful during shoots, and gives you a ‘third hand’ to hold reflectors or move things out of the way.

I’ve been shooting a lot of macro in my backyard recently, and I am using both reflectors and lume cubes to add light to my flower images.  With the Plamp, I attach one end (the heavy duty clamp) to my tripod, and use the other clamp to hold a reflector.  You can also hold a diffuser over your flower, or use the Plamp to hold a distracting plant out of your frame.  The arm is stiff enough you could also use it to hold a small action cam (GoPro).  The Plamp is lightweight, and costs about $40.  If you shoot a lot of macro and flowers, it is well worth the money.  Enjoy!
