Really Right Stuff PG-02

June 3, 2012 • Blog, Gear Talk

The rivers are running in Colorado right now, but it is going to be a short season with little snow left to melt in the mountains.  I was working with my  main kayaking ‘model’ yesterday, Patrick, as he looped in a play spot on the Poudre river.  The D800 did a great job of catching the action.  D800, 1/1000, F5.6, ISO 800.

I have been using a new piece of gear I have to mention because it works so well.  If you are shooting a long lens, at 400mm or longer, I highly recommend the Really Right Stuff PG-02 Pano-Gimbal head.  I use a 600mm for bird photography, and with my lens attached to this head I can use one finger to effortlessly move my lens around and follow moving subjects.

Cree and I were photographing Osprey recently, and this head made all the difference.  Nothing like sipping coffee and shooting pics right out of the back of your car!

D800, 600mm F4, F5.6, 1/3200, ISO 400.
