Nikon just published an article I produced for them last summer…How to Photograph Hummingbirds. I was so excited when I got this assignment, it coincided perfectly with a hummingbird workshop we ran in Madera Canyon last summer. I did a couple of different trips to produce enough images for the story, especially the flash photographs. Pretty fun sitting in my camp chair for hours trying to capture the perfect broad-billed hummingbird. We don’t have hummingbirds at our house feeders, so we need to travel to find these amazing birds. The article covers both available light and flash images, and addresses the big question of wings ‘frozen or blurry’. If you want to try flash hummingbird photography, we still have a few spots left on our 2023 Arizona hummingbird workshop.
