D800 as wildlife camera.

June 15, 2012 • Blog, Gear Talk

I just returned from shooting images in Canada for an upcoming editorial story, and had a chance to photograph one of my favorite birds, the Atlantic Puffin.  Since I have shot about every subject with my D800, I thought it might be a nice choice for wildlife as well. Granted, a D4 would be better for fast moving action.  But a lot of wildlife photography involves static subjects.  If you have never seen what a 100mb  Photoshop file of bird feathers looks like, that is what the D800 cranks out.  Impressive! Blowing this puffin up to 100 percent in Photoshop is like looking at feathers through a microscope. D800, 600mm F4, 1/500 at F8, ISO 100.

Next up…how does the D800 perform with Hypersync and Elincrhom Quadras?
