Nikon just posted an article I did for them on bear photography. Titled “The Bear Essentials“, this story provides tips and techniques for bear photography. Writing the story and working on images was like going back in time for me. My first photo workshops were guiding bear trips to Kodiak and Katmai over 25 years ago. This was back in the day of film, and there were not many other photographers around in Alaska. I remember desperately trying to change film every 36 frames while shooting at Brooks Falls. I went through 45 rolls of film on that trip, 1620 images. Now shooting at 20 frames a second I shoot that many frames in an hour at the falls!
Bear photography trips are popular now, so the focus of the article is giving tips to help you take better photos. We just had two spots open on our bear safari trip next year, come join us for this incredible trip. Last year we saw 105 bears in one day!
